Web Page (Definition)
Web Page
Definition:
A Web Page is a document written for display on the World-wide Web. Web pages are most commonly static (non-changing) documents written in HTML, but also include any content dynamically generated and displayed on the World-wide web. Such pages might be search engine results page or any database-driven dynamic document.
Web Page Footer
Definition:
Collection of information that appears at the bottom of all pages of a web site. Standard footer information might include, a Copyright statement, contact information, a link to the web site privacy policy, a link to the web site terms of use, etc. It is a good practice to generate all web page footers dynamically. Dynamic footers can be modified across an entire site with one change.
Web Page Header
Definition:
Collection of information that appears at the top of all web pages that make up a web site. Commonly appearing header information may include: Corporate Branding information, Web Site name, web page title and the user interface for site navigation. Maintaining consistant header information, across all pages of a web site, contributes to an overall professional and user-friendly web site design.
Web Page Hits
Definition:
Web page hits refer to the number of files served to web site visitors by a specific web site server each time a web page is requested. These files include html files, jpgs, gifs, text files, etc.
For example, if a web page is comprised of itself (the html file), 8 jpg files, and an additional include or text file, a total of 10 hits is recorded when a user visits the page. If the page has no other elements used to build the page, only one hit will be recorded representing the html web page.
While this web site statistic provides an accurate tracking mechanism to track total number of files served by a site, it is not a very reliable statistic to determine web site traffic. A much better gauge of web site traffic is unique visitors and number of visits.
